Privacy

Last updated: 2026-05-19

Mise is a personal recipe library and meal-planning tool. We're privacy-first: we collect the minimum data needed to make the product work, we don't sell or share it, and we delete anything we don't need to keep. This page describes what we store, how we use it, and how to remove it.

Our principles

  • We collect the least data possible to run the service.
  • We don't sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We don't use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies.
  • Third-party services are used transiently for extraction only — your content isn't retained by them on our behalf.
  • You can delete your recipes, plans, and account at any time.

What we store

  • Recipes you add to your library — manually entered, or imported from a URL, TikTok, YouTube, or Instagram link you paste. We store the recipe title, ingredients, steps, servings, time, source URL, and a recipe image when one is available.
  • Weekly meal plans — which recipes you assigned to which meal slots, and whether you've ticked them as cooked.
  • Your grocery list state — which items you've ticked off.
  • Your account email and name — only if and when you sign in.

That's it. We don't collect device fingerprints, IP-based location, behavioural data, or anything not listed above.

What we don't store

  • Raw page HTML, embed HTML, or social-post metadata beyond what's listed above.
  • Author handles, profile data, or social-graph information from imported links.
  • Analytics, page-view, or usage-tracking data.
  • Any data sent to extraction services beyond the extracted recipe itself.

How we use third-party services

To extract recipe text from URLs, we use the following services on the server side. Your recipe content is sent to these services only for the duration of an extraction request and is not retained by us beyond the extracted recipe itself.

  • Anthropic (Claude) — for recipes that aren't in schema.org/Recipe format, we send the page text or social-video caption to Anthropic for structured extraction. We don't send your account identity to Anthropic.
  • Meta (Instagram oEmbed Read) — when you import an Instagram link, we call Meta's oEmbed Read endpoint to retrieve the post's public caption and thumbnail. Only the caption text and the thumbnail URL are kept; we don't store the embed HTML, the author handle, or any other Instagram-derived data.
  • TikTok and YouTube — public endpoints (TikTok oEmbed, YouTube watch page) for retrieving captions and descriptions. No authentication, no data shared back.

Where data is stored

Recipes, plans, and account data are stored in our application database. We use reputable infrastructure providers and apply standard security practices (encryption in transit, access controls). No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your library as private by default.

Data retention

We keep your recipes, meal plans, and grocery state for as long as your account is active. Anything you delete is removed from the live database promptly; routine backups may retain copies for a short period before they roll off. We don't keep deleted content beyond that.

Data deletion

Every recipe you add can be deleted from its detail page. Deleting a recipe cascades to the associated planner slots and shopping-list state. You can delete your entire account from Settings → Account → Delete account, which removes everything we hold on you.

To request deletion of your account or any specific data, email help@sudoit.au.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request correction of anything inaccurate, and request deletion. Email help@sudoit.au and we'll respond within a reasonable period.

Cookies and analytics

Mise uses a single session cookie when account management is enabled, used only to keep you signed in. We don't use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies.

Children

Mise isn't directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we store or how we handle it, we'll update this page and bump the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be flagged in-app where practical.
