Mise is a personal recipe library and meal-planning tool. This page describes what data we store, how we use it, and how to delete it.

What we store

  • Recipes you add to your library — manually entered, or imported from a URL, TikTok, YouTube, or Instagram link you paste. We store the recipe title, ingredients, steps, servings, time, source URL, and a recipe image when one is available.
  • Weekly meal plans — which recipes you assigned to which meal slots, and whether you've ticked them as cooked.
  • Your grocery list state — which items you've ticked off.
  • Your account email and name — only if/when you sign in (single-user mode in the current build).

How we use third-party services

To extract recipe text from URLs, we use the following services on the server side. Your recipe content is sent to these services only for the duration of an extraction request and is not retained by us beyond the extracted recipe itself.

  • Anthropic Claude — for recipes that aren't in schema.org/Recipe format, we send the page text or social-video caption to Anthropic for structured extraction. We do not send your account identity to Anthropic.
  • Meta (Instagram oEmbed Read) — when you import an Instagram link, we call Meta's oEmbed Read endpoint to retrieve the post's public caption + thumbnail. Only the caption text and the thumbnail URL are kept; we don't store the embed HTML, the author handle, or any other Instagram-derived data.
  • TikTok and YouTube — public endpoints (TikTok oEmbed, YouTube watch page) for retrieving captions/descriptions. No authentication, no data shared back.

Data deletion

Every recipe you add can be deleted from its detail page. Deleting a recipe cascades to the associated planner slots and shopping-list state. Deleting your account (when account management ships) removes everything we hold on you.

Cookies and analytics

Mise uses a single session cookie when account management is enabled, used only to keep you signed in. We don't use third-party analytics or advertising cookies.
